Model Validation/Backtesting
Don't blindly trust that your model produces reasonable results and your ALM program effectively manages risk; sleep soundly knowing they do. It's also a regulatory requirement, and for good reason. Over the years, we've found models that were inadequate for an institution's risk profile, were fed by bad data, or produced faulty calculations. In addition, we've identified many reporting errors (poorly built Excel spreadsheets have caused more bad decisions than any factor except inexperience).
